Four Strikes Against Me is not cut, but they did change the lyrics to eliminate "fat" references-the actor playing the role is actually quite thin.
I'm not here to defend the choices made by Encores, or the quality of this show. But I enjoyed it-I saw the original production years ago, and think it's worth seeing.
I would also add that the audience was quite enthusiastic, especially in response to the dance numbers and Joshua Henry's big number. I'm not contradicting any complaints, but I think it's only fair to relate that I, and many of the audience members, appreciated this performance of a flawed musical. |
