Absolutely! I'll admit of all my examples this one is the one I didn't explain the best. I hope this helps make my case.

A few line specific examples:

Tateh is finally starting to realize that the America he believed in isn't the one he expected it to be, he started to realize it after someone offers to buy his child, he goes to hear Emma Goldman thinking that will help, realizes it doesn't - his line "Why does nobody care?" strikes me as a realization for him that in fact, he is ALONE in America.

Mother's Younger Brother & Emma Goldman, smarter and more forward thinking than those around them realize "there is blood in the air" which suggests that they know there's a great amount of disrest coming (as it does for both of them and so many characters in Act Two - immigrants and African Americans alike. While Tateh assimilates himself into American Culture Coalhouse rails against it.)

"We have voices and souls" sing ALL the women, something Mother would be feeling as she's had a taste of "independence" from Father only to have it taken away when he returns home.

Coalhouse, Mother, Emma Goldman and Mother's Younger Brother (each representative of their different communities in the show) ask "What is wrong with this country?" as they realize that what they thought living in America meant isn't.

As the finale grow so many of the characters (women, African Americans, the poor, the immigrants, etc. etc. etc.) sing to bring a close to Act One. They are all determined (some more than others) to no longer live under the oppressive thumb of the white, rich men that have controlled their lives for so long. I would note, in the script they send out for regional productions there's a stage note that says "Father and Grandfather leave the stage" before the end of the song. They represent the two main characters (other than Henry Ford and JP Morgan) who represent the rich, white men who are about to have their lives turned upside down.

"She was somebody's child!
There are Negroes out there!
There are people out there!
Give the people
A day of peace.
A day of pride.
A day of justice
We have been denied."
