| The Lin-Manuel Miranda-composed "We Don't Talk About Bruno" has made it to No. 1 on the overall Billboard charts, toppling Adele's "Easy on Me." "Bruno" is still really lagging in radio airplay, but it's No. 1 and increasing in streaming and was sale-priced at 69 cents in iTunes during the tracking week (a common tactic to goose sales and therefore improve chart position for those oh-so-close songs). Although "Bruno" was not submitted for Oscars consideration, its success and that of the other Encanto songs (there are 7 Encanto songs in the Hot 100) may get him the Oscar for "Dos Oruguitas," the only eligible Encanto song. That would give Miranda his EGOT. "Bruno" is produced by Miranda and Mike Elizondo. Elizondo's only other No. 1 was almost 20 years ago; he co-produced 50 Cent's "In Da Club" with Dr Dre. Not a prior credit one would associate with a Disney animated film! Speaking of those films, Encanto's "Bruno" and "Surface Pressure" are two of only 7 songs from Disney animated films to hit Billboard's overall Top 10 since the Hot 100 was created in 1958. Any guesses what the other 5 are? Not at all coincidentally, 4 of the 5 are from films that became Broadway musicals. The answer is in the next message. |
