And, this also goes back to another thread that I never got a chance to take part in that was on here recently.
One word that gets used for individual melodies sung together (i.e. not just counterpoint written to a single melody, but tunes that work on their own as well) is quodlibet. And the operatic term for this kind of mutl-part ensemble (especially when the action essentially stops for everyone to do so) is a concertato. |
