West Side Story has had good staying power at the box office. It was in the Top 10 for 56 consecutive days and 8 weekends, up until this weekend. That's longer than many other films. The Eternals, for example, was in the Top 10 for seven weekends; In the Heights for four weekends; and Dear Evan Hansen for three. WSS is getting awards attention, and its continued box office numbers means that word of mouth must be good.

The problem is that the opening was so low that even after all this time and relatively small week-to-week decreases, its total domestic box office is still only $36.4 million. Although that beats out In the Heights and Dear Evan Hansen, it's still going to lose money.

Speaking of awards, Mike Faist was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the BAFTAs, the British equivalent of the Oscars, which was a pleasant surprise. Ariana DeBose was also nominated, although the film did not make the cut for Best Film, nor did Spielberg for Best Director.
