Laura, try to see it on as big a screen as possible. It's worth it.

I must agree. Even though I saw it with about 12 people on January 1, it looks -- and sounds -- especially wonderful in a house with good digital equipment. Ah, the music that begins in the dark had me tearing up from the start. Those opening notes, seemingly coming from behind me somewhere in the multi-track presentation. Bernstein is very honored in the reverential treatment, and with state of the art sound, that makes the cinema experience a heightened and glorious one. Worth the ice, snow, masking, and empty seats around you. Go.

Would love, love to have seen it on the big screen - am also being careful re going to theatres, mainly cause of my 85 year-old Mom - & owe being able to see this to it being the time of year when screeners are sent. Again, was so thrilled & moved right in the heart by every moment of it. Laura, ENJOY!!!!

Did SAG-AFTRA finally get screeners? Because the WGA only got the printed screenplay, and if memory serves, about two weeks ago (will check mail). I didn't know the other unions received it, but perhaps the DGA sent it.

Delvino, mine just, JUST arrived on Friday...most other dvds haven't reached at least me yet. Bet you'll get one - makes sense, though, that WGA members first of all got a copy of the screenplay (we don't, naturally, having to look at acting).

Pretty much everyone got screeners.
The motion picture Academy, per their new rules, only got digital codes to view on a computer or a smart TV app –
but WGA, DGA, PGA and SAG long since received both. (The digital screener as well as traditional DVF.)

No burned screeners for the WGA.

Nope, I'm in the WGA, and we got no WSS screener. We got the published screenplay download, and a digital access from Disney with a code, on December 23, January 22 and February 2. Checked my email. Our voting closes 2/16, a week after the Oscar nominations, and WSS of course is a nominee in adaptation.

I have a friend who's a SAG nominator. He says he got digital access, but never got a physical screener. (I also saw some griping online from others.) Anyway, my friend saw ''West Side Story'' on the big screen and loved it. He was shocked that it wasn't nominated for SAG Ensemble.

He thinks the screener issue might've hurt its chances; he claims all of the SAG Ensemble nominees sent actual screeners.

Am just a regular SAG-AFTRA voter this year, not on nominating committee....my dvd arrived just 2 days ago, & in general for all of us, studios began to send them in the mail at the very end of January, digital screeners having been made available around the 18th. Such a strong ensemble, but could it be that it is SUCH a huge one, including all of the dancers & singers? Who knows, indeed...I thought Ansel Egort & Rachel Ziegler did heartbreaking work too.

Snowgrace, do you get screeners earlier if you're on the nominating committee? I'm wondering if the movie studios know who's on the committee and who isn't.

You are right, it's up to the studios what they make available & in what form. Nominating committees for film & television look at the long lists of names submitted by productions for consideration, view what content is made available by studios, & cast votes for who will end up in the final categories of nominees. So they receive their screeners usually beginning a couple of months ahead of when nominations are announced & the total body of members has access to screeners (for just the nominated work) & votes. It may well be that some dvds weren't ready back in late fall. For television & film, some content is only available through streaming all through till final voting is complete, in this case in late February.

I’m with Snowgrace. We have immune-compromised family members. I would love to see this on the big screen and I know the risk isn’t that great. But I’m still going stay extra extra cautious.

Still holding out hopes I can see THE BAND’S VISIT next month…but not confident.

The film does seem to have "legs". It's still playing this week in the Chicago suburb movie theaters, which is highly unusual so many weeks after its debut. I'm going to try to see it for the 3rd time on Tuesday afternoon.

That's wonderful about this still playing in so many theatres outside Chicago too! Yup...the high stakes for all the characters in every moment of this production, the dramatic poetry behind each beat of the direction & acting choices (look at where Spielberg has Anita going during I HAVE A LOVE)...legs indeed.
