| Apologies if this is music theory pedantry, but the Shipoopi scale is actually modal--mixolydian to be specific. (I'm sure anyone who has music directed the show has had a moment of reminding the ensemble to flat the 7th scale tone!) It's the scale you get if you play all the white notes starting on G. I agree this is a great article though--the cleverness and craft and innovations in the score are amazing! |
