| I’m not sure of the “bar”-ometer regarding drinks being served, as last night was my 1st time back in a Broadway house since the pandemic began. The ushers were amazingly watchful and had scheduled “parades” down the aisles for quick spot checks. But at intermission the bar was open and people were partying like it was 1999! Mostly loud cackling and several mask drops until an usher swung by. A bit jarring for my first time back. And while i appreciated everyone’s enthusiasm at being at COMPANY, I kinda stood off alone to the side of the theatre just to be cautious. I wasn’t sold on Lenk, but damn, the solid supporting cast was terrific. A pretty full house for a Tuesday evening, and they played the show as if it were opening night. Just joyous! |

| I think audience numbers will falls drastically if masking is relaxed on Bway. Not wearing a mask outdoors or in a supermarket is very different from not wearing a mask in a theatre with a thousand people sitting shoulder to shoulder. |

| "I think audience numbers will falls drastically if masking is relaxed on Bway." I think exactly the opposite, personally. |

| Indeed. It seems to me that even out here, there have been a number of people saying they don't want to have to wear a mask for a while performance, so they're choosing not to go to shows. Of course, yes, there will also be many on the opposite side of the argument, who would go if people are masked, but will be wary of going if people aren't. |

|
| and the correct answer is that there are both demographics. At some point, probably after Mayday, there will be a calculation of which group wins. My guess is that we might see this go show by show for a while, just as we will see other places that make their own way. | |

| It's very hard for me to believe there could be a "goes show for show" scenario ... Broadway is usually good at unity as a community. Obviously some producers might see the value in being the show anti-mask people can go to, but I'll believe it being policy when I see it. | |

| I don't have any idea and don't mean to suggest I do, but there are many many things where individual landlords and producers are not unified. In fact, on covid related matters in particular, there are some significant differences in terms of how testing is handled, whether there are beverages served on the premises, how vigilantly masking is enforced, and so on. So to me it is not a foregone conclusion. MJ may not care if it loses the more cautious audience but I suspect shows that are dependent on a more traditional, non-touristy crowd could see it differently. But again, I don't know and we shall see. | |

| I think there will be a big split between the tourist-targeted shows like MJ and shows like The Skin of Our Teeth. Arthouse films are still struggling at the box office because many members of the older audience are still wary. | |

| "arthouse" shows, as you call them, i would think rely much more heavily on the local liberal NYC and tri-state area audience... and they are firmly leaning pro-mask and vaxx checks. The bigger tourist attraction shows attract audiences from all over, and many of those places and the people wanting to see them are not as dependably pro-mask. I think arthouse shows have to maintain protocols to appeal to local audiences, and big ones will want to loosen. |

| I think we'll see plenty of information/promotion about the effectiveness of one-way masking in the next few weeks. I think some folks will wear an N95 mask (even if others aren't) and that may make them feel more comfortable. Personally, I will be comfortable without a mask, although I don't find wearing one at the theater difficult. I wore on last night for 2.5 hours at Hairspray (tour playing in Chicago) and was fine. |

| so maybe you haven't been outside of NY, but churches have been meeting indoors without masks for well over a year. It isn't unusual to sit ....and sing!....with other humans without a mask on. | |

| But we've also had several choir directors die of Covid (Rosemary Collins in December, and that guy from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir earlier last year). Just because it's not "unusual" doesn't mean it's smart! | |
