Hangmen plays well to an in person audience, I seem to recall you only saw a broadcast of it which I don’t think would be quite the same. Obviously as his trademark his plays often very carefully balance humor and horror and you feel that transition buzzing from the people around you.
I rate it around the middle of his plays, for example not nearly as good as his best The Pillowman or Lieutenant of Inishmore but better than the Cripple of Inishmaan and ten times better than the disastrous in my opinion “A Very Very Very Dark Matter”. |
