| Neither the Times or the Daly News carried a review of the show in Friday's print editions (Times review will appear tomorrow - Saturday.) | |

| When they required the critics to actually attend opening night I thought they were going to announce that Jerry Zaks died | |

| A very odd requirement. It's not like an extra preview performance was going to make much difference -- it seems. | |

| It was a move purely for publicity purposes, based on the thinking that their show was critic-proof anyway. They don't care about the people who actually have to write the reviews and don't particularly care what they have to say, as long as Jackman stays healthy and continues to show up 8 times a week. If the reviews don't run the next day? Who cares? If the critic get their digs in because the rule? Who cares? But people are talking about the production for one more reason now. No production that needed to court critics or really cared what they had to say would ever dare try this. |

| The producers did all they could to reduce the window between critics seeing the show and Friday’s print deadline. Blaming the papers seems rather perverse. | |

| As makes sense if they went to opening night, since the Friday print edition would have already gone to press. Not a "snub" but just the mechanics of journalism, and a commonplace in the UK where critics' previews happen much less frequently than in NY. | |

| Seems like the producers saw they had a bland show on stage and predicted lukewarm reviews. That bizarre mandate keeping critics out of the show before opening night was probably meant to do exactly that, push the reviews onto Saturday papers and mitigate the damage. (Very hard to truly do in the Internet age.) | |

| I resisted your take -- that the producers cynically anticipated the range of reviews, (too) many "meh" -- but now fully accept it. They didn't seem eager to have the press weigh in. As publicity stunts go, there's no big win in this decision other than to stagger possible mixed notices. | |
