The article linked below gets at what she’s probably talking about. Funny enough I’d forgotten that Brantley (or Margo Jefferson for that matter) had ever been cool to it; what I remembered was Frank Rich’s Sunday piece, referenced in this article, where I believe he called “Caroline or Change” the greatest piece of musical theatre since “A Chorus Line”. (And this from the writer who’d once been accused of shilling for the show that wags dubbed “Sunday in the Times with Frank”.)

As usual though, it would seem Pinkins is prone to exaggeration; I can’t find evidence that Brantley and Kushner ever had an overall feud, let alone a “personal testosterone match”.
