Horrible set design for English

What is the point of putting on a play when at least the first four rows of the audience are getting an obstructed view? The miserable rotating set does nothing to alleviate the problem. You just keep getting another obstructed view. A travesty of scenic design.

I just ranted about the same thing on my social media! I wasn't in one of the first rows, but I was in a seat where the vertical support column was smack dab in the middle of my line of sight every time it was on my side of the stage... Not being able to see the character who is speaking when there are only five characters on stage and yours is not a "partial view" seat is an awful way to start a play.

During the talkback on Tuesday night, I think it was the director who mentioned that the play had at one point been planned for the Roundabout's underground space. I can see how the set might have made more sense in that theater where fewer seats are looking up at the stage, as they are at the first few rows of the Atlantic.

With all due respect then the set should have been moderated for a completely different space. Can I expect a refund for the half of the show I did not see?

The Underground likely wouldn't have a rotating set, since the space is so small.... but more, the Underground is all obstructed view seats except for the first row, since Roundabout was too cheap to build an actual theater. So count your blessings.
