Your statement is likely true but it does not address the original question. There is not a market sufficient to fill the theatre without regard to what critics think or any other factor. If one person does not buy tickets, the production is "hurt." If one person won't pay as much, the production is hurt. It is dead wrong to say that the producers don't care about middle class NYC audiences. Only an idiot doesn't care about every fucking seat in the house. It is producing 101. Can Jackman sustain a decent box office for his duration in the show? Yes. Will the show survive long without him? Maybe. Doubtful. Do the producers realize that? Yep. Are sales right now far too soft for a show structured on this model. Definitely.
