I can't speak for others that stage door, but I'm truly not looking to gain anything out of the experience other than express my appreciation for a particular actor's performance. I don't stage door often, and I certainly don't do it after every show I see. However, when I see a performance that really wows me, I will wait. I respect a performer's decision NOT to engage with fans. I understand that type of interaction isn't for all performers and I certainly don't expect performers to feel obligated to engage with those that might be waiting at the stage door. That being said, I've had some lovely interactions with some actors and while I realize they are actors, I do think it's possible that some actors enjoy the interaction with the public as well.
