Of my time of living in the city, RENT was the first show what became a cultural phenomenon -- it was everywhere! TV shows, magazine articles, fashion -- every was talking about.
It was the HAMILTON of its time in that even people not interested in musicals knew about it
To my recollection, it was also the first show that had super obsessed fans who saw the show dozens and dozens, even hundreds of times
Was it the first show that had a day of lottery? I am not sure, but I its SEEMS so. There was a lot of stories in the media about the fans who waited all day in the line for the lottery.
It seemed to me to be the first show of obsessed super fans -- to be followed by Wicked and Hamilton
And I think the score is terrific. More so in the studio recording then in live performance. |
