What struck me at the time (I saw it opening night on Broadway and three additional times) was that it first musical that was dealing with the issues of my day and age. It felt revolutionary in that way. It was incredibly moving. My boyfriend was HIV positive and much of the show hit us like a ton of bricks.

I was fortunate to attend the opining night party and you could feel the electricity in the air and knew that stars were being born.

I waited in that $25 front row rush line three times. And got tickets all three times.

As another poster mentioned, it wasn't until Hamilton came along that a show was an "event ' in this way.
