| and if one has some spare time, as many have during the pandemic. 1) Why does Jo Wilder, who it seems mainly sings (or has a few solo lines) in the ensemble in "Twelve Days to Christmas" in "She Loves Me" have billing over Wood Romoff who has a big solo in "A Romantic Atmosphere". Wilder was Barbara Cook's understudy though, so perhaps that's why she listed first under "With" in the cast. 2) Ever hear some people with wonderful singing voices on recordings and wonder why they didn't have a breakout role? I love Bruce MacKay's voice singing opposite Anthony Perkins in "Greenwillow" in the song "The Music of Home", just beautiful. His character had another song that apparently didn't make it to the cast album. MacKay did a number other roles including standing by for Robert Weede in "The Most Happy Fella" when I looked him up, so apparently others thought he had a wonderful voice, too. 3) Why didn't William Redfield became a go-to leading musical comedy star -- he's superb and so full of energy via his voice alone on the original recording of "Out of This World". He had been performing on stage since he was a child and went on to some fine character work on stage and in films before dying fairly young. But I just love his performance on that recording. Well that's a start anyway... Any answers? More questions? Yes, I'm distracting myself. As the tour guide says in the first number of "Wonderful Town": "Come along!" |
