| I think "concept musical" was a handier term to describe these shows than anything else that was bandied about, if anything indeed was. Maybe "theme show", though that came to mean more like a revue or used for variety shows on tv at some point. These shows you mentioned were, to some extent, plotless shows that were clearly not just revues. They had a grounding on overall subjects like marriage ("Love Life", "Company"), the trajectory of a man's life ("Allegro"), a reunion and a look-back on how lives turned out ("Follies"), etc. without the clear plotting of a traditional musical. |
