| I would never, ever have thought of associating Judy Kaye with giving anything but a fine performance! Singling her and some of the others out in that show is pretty mean-spirited, as she's a supporting person and the show was scaled for theater (at least originally). Star ego is nowhere in play as it is with Platt's wanting to put his performance on screen; he is considered by many to be giving too big a performance and to be too mature on screen to be believable. The direction, cuts/additions and screenplay of the film magnified and pointed out problems that didn't bother people on stage. I wonder if the Razzies were around in the 1950s what they might have thought of Nancy Kelly in "The Bad Seed"; she's not too mature for the role, but she is playing to the third balcony, something her director should have toned down. But if you're watching from the back of a big room, given her character's real dilemma, it's still pretty darn effective. |
