You're not the first to think that, considering Beanie was cast as Mary for the yet to begin film of Merrily by Richard Linklater.
I honestly hope, if the film ever does get made (and planning to shoot it over a decade or whatever his plan was, is risky enough considering he and the actors have to remain alive), that he has the wisdom to do the film as originally conceived and one with the graduation scenes. Keep "Growing Up", fine, just put back the fucking graduation scenes. The only reason to revised those out was because of adults playing kids or kids playing adults... but in a film, that can easily work in a way it didn't on stage. I hope Sondheim gave him permission or free rein to figure out what works for a film of the entire scope of the musical rather than a film of the inept shell of the musical that once was which we have now. :)
And I agree, Beanie has the potential to be a fantastic Mary. |
