I'm also of the "definitely a sellout but not frenzied" mind of ShowGoer. Merrily was also at Encores in 2012 in addition to Roundabout in 2019, so it's been seen in NY in a major production twice in the past 10 years. I don't think Radcliffe alone will start a frenzy. New Yorkers who want to see him on stage have seen him, and he's good but not in a "I can't wait to see what he does next" kind of way IMO. I don't think the fact that this is a musical makes that much of a difference. And I don't think he's going to be some kind of revelation in the role.
If the other two leads are cast the way they could/should be, then there might be a frenzy.
Right now, to use another NYTW production as a comparison, I'd say it would probably be less of a hot ticket than the Daniel Craig/David Oyelowo Othello. |
