The whole scene leading up to the exchange is about Louise, and her ability to have her own life for the first time. June is long gone. Rose and Louise are fighting about Rose's interference in Gypsy's adult life. The whole "no kid does it on his own, but I am not a kid anymore" follows Rose's assertion that "you need me."
You get the sense when Rose is asking why she did "all the working and pushing and finagling; all the scheming and scrimping" she's mostly talking about making Louise, an unwilling homebody without talent, into a star. And so Louise nails her back.
It wouldn't at all make sense for Louise to mention June, or even "us" here. She's talking about herself. |
