I agree fully that they should know or say that they do not know for sure (but there's no excuse for them not to be armed with accurate answers to all questions like that, for any price but especially this level of pricing)...

But I am not sure a box office employee is considered a *salesperson* whose job it is to *sell*. I think their main role is to be the person who makes the sale possible to the customer, and helps them see the information about the seats available for the dates and at what prices. I've never dealt with a box office person at any theater in 20 years of my theater-going who has seemed to attempt any kind of "sales", if even the demeanor of someone trying to sell me. They seem very matter-of-fact.
This is quite different than the people who call me from local regional theaters trying to sell subscriptions or packages or individual tickets... they definitely are salespeople in that sense and act/talk that way. But never Broadway box office employees, in my experience.
