| Cinderella was one of the first shows to open up after numerous lockdowns. People had been starved of live theatre and were just grateful to be seeing something, it clearly clouded their judgement because the show I saw was not reflected by the reviews. The plot lines are a mess, the tunes, apart from 1 or 2 are bottom drawer Lloyd Webber and I am still confused how David Zippel, who wrote the clever, witty, surprising lyrics for City of Angels could turn in the obvious, trite lyrics for Cinderella. The best thing about the production is the theatre revolve used at the start of Act 2, turning the theatre from proscenium to in-the-round. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the show itself. |
