''Coming Clean'' is Ben Strothmann's often comical solo show about growing up gay in Milwaukee and his adult adventures in the ''sexual playground'' of New York, and it's now streaming through March 20. It's a candid collection of his stories, told with lotsa humor and heart. For instance, when he was a kid, Ben says he discovered he was gay after he started developing crushes on cartoon characters, like Foghorn Leghorn and the Pink Panther.
Years ago, I got to befriend Ben as a first-rate photographer. He used to shoot rising Broadway stars, like Cheyenne Jackson and Jonathan Groff, for my ''Leading Men'' column for Playbill.com. And with ''Coming Clean,'' it turns out he's a terrific performer and stellar storyteller, too. Or as Christopher Caz, a reviewer for the Manhattan Digest, puts it: '' 'Coming Clean' is, in a word, brilliant. It is a delight and a joy to watch.'' Bravo, Ben! |
