Howard Miller takes a look at Jane Anger at the New Ohio Theatre:
Who is Jane Anger? History tells us she was the English author of a pamphlet published in 1589 titled "Protection for Women," considered to be an early feminist text that took on male supremacy and misogyny. Little else is known about the author, and there has been much speculation as to whether "Jane Anger" is the writer's actual name, or even if "Jane" might have been a male writing under cover of a pseudonym. All of this is grist for scholars, as well as for playwright Talene Monahon, whose Jane Anger, a well-acted if uneven mix of lowbrow comedy and highbrow ideas, is now on view at the New Ohio Theater. |
