| And the song is about married women. I don't understand its being a delivered as a cautionary tale. The ladies who lunch *can* lunch because they're financially supported, sans careers or needed salaries. Socioeconomic fact. One lyric about "who just watch" may fit the I-am-a-camera Bobbi, witnessing Joanne, but the song in its entirety is a famously acid condemnation of empty days spent by the privileged who have the luxury of time on their hands. It catalogs niche Manhattan activities. So for me, this new focus on shaking a young woman -- who's got a career and remains unattached -- still feels strained. |
