"How many people at any given performance will actually know that she played Scout in the film?"
Given how much attention her casting has been given thus far in the press releases, my guess is that Badham will be front and center publicizing the production along with Thomas at every stop on the tour If you didn't know her name before (and I certainly didn't), if TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD comes to your city, you will know who she is by the time they arrive. I'm certain she is a fine actress, but, given her inexperience on stage, I'm pretty sure this is exactly why she was cast...to provide a link to the classic Hollywood movie that everyone remembers fondly.
I'm curious about how this came about...did the production reach out to her or did she reach out to them? My sense is that someone on the production team had a idea (Hey, is Scout from the movie still alive? She is? How old is she? What if she played Mrs. Dubose and we milked that for publicity for the entire run?") and tracked her down to gauge her interest. But did they make her audition? |
