Why the award ?

The Drama League has said that the award being given to Hugh Jackman is in recognition of his accomplishments in the field of musical theatre for both film and stage.

Film : Oscar nomination and Golden Globe award fo Les Miserables/Les Miserables was likewise a box office hit / Grammy win and Golden Globe nomination for HJ for The Greatest Showman (also the leggiest movie since Titanic & 2018 world-wide best-selling album, including pop music).

Stage: Tony win and Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award for TheBoyFromOz / Special Tony award for his musical variety show BackOnB'way and for his humanitarian work ( presumably for BC/EFA - he has raised over five and half million dollars for the B'way charity). Affirmed his commitment to the staging of The Music Man revival after several difficult issues( pandemic delays/ Rudin issue/ 2 personal Covid Infections) and help B'way get back on its feet.

Early in his career, he was cited for his work in Beauty&TheBeast and SunsetBlvd in AU. He was an Olivier nominee for the National Theatre "Oklahoma!" in London,UK..

Hosted the 2009 Oscars ( which won an EMMY for its Opening Number, in which he used the triple-threat talent that distinguishes a musical theatre performer to present the individual Oscar Best Picture nominees).

Hosted the Tonys 4 times ( 2004 won an EMMY for his hosting).
