But one answers the other. Shows moved for the same reason that shows nowadays do - they lose their theater or they want to downsize chief among them - but it doesn't happen nearly as often now (in the past twenty years, I can think of "August: Osage County", "Mama Mia!", "The Lion King", and "Beetlejuice", sure I'm missing a few), because, among other reasons, the costs have gotten so much more expensive and because sets are much more elaborate.
TLDR: They moved more back then because it was easier. |
