If you’re the Drama League and want to garner publicity while keeping integrity, you wouldn’t honor Shia, Bruce, or Pam Anderson. You’d pick the guy with Tonys, Emmys, and an Oscar nom. You’d pick the guy who has been a great face for Broadway (hosting Tony Awards and serving as the face/voice of Broadways return, arguably). I mean, you kind of proved the point.
No one has said anything about Jackman’s integrity or graciousness or class. No one has said anything personal about this man. Some of us have stated that we were disappointed by his performance. And a lot of the critics agreed.
Tickets that were once in the $700 range are now going for $260. And they’re easily available. The reviews were mixed to negative, many of which pointed out a disappointing, muted performance from Jackman.
I’m really unsure what your defensiveness is about here. He’s a legendarily nice guy, legendarily kind to his fans, as kind to Broadway as anyone in memory. But he’s giving a surprisingly tepid performance in a disappointing production.
