| The Encores! production of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE was one of their best. It was skillfully directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, and starred Sutton Foster as Fay Apple, Raul Esparza as Hapgood, and Donna Murphy as Cora, all of whom were terrific. It was not only the funniest production of this piece, but also, the most moving. It should have been recorded. I also enjoyed the previous Carnegie Hall concert version (which is recorded), starring Bernadette Peters, Madeline Kahn and Scott Bakula. The Master Voices version was satisfying, but underwhelming, what with such a weak Cora. | |
