| So Beanie sold tickets in both our houses. I think there are some easy ways to see the billing: One is that they suspect no one person in the cast will sell a lot of tickets on their own, but that the combination will entice people. A rising star, a heartthrob musical star, and a beloved comedienne with dramatic chops, that’s going to be a good night in the theater. And I do think you’re understanding the appeal of Lynch and Karimloo. Another is that they expect this show will make Feldstein into a star once the reviews hit. And then a third is that, because no one is a super star, all three negotiated above-the-title billing. The floating appearance of Grimes as a sometimes fourth name is intriguing, but it does seem from their newest video that they’re making a concerted play for the Black audience and for the hip-hop audience. Falling into the latter, they’ve definitely got me excited for Rat-a-Tat if they can pull it off. As for salaries, I’m sure if the show does well, they will all be paid handsomely. And if not… well even Nathan Lane will take Equity minimum if his show isn’t making a profit and he wants it to run. |
