speaking of ALNM productions... while I didn't see it, I am very surprised and sad that the London revival starring Judi Dench that got such acclaim wasn't filmed, especially in the UK where filming stage shows is so much cheaper and more prevalent. And with a British acting star like Dench who had been a staple and star of the london stage for decades by then...
having not seen it I can't say if it represents my ideal presentation of the show or not (and they did a tricky thing trying to mix the two versions of The Glamorous Life, which sounds like didn't actually work at all, so I'd not have wanted that in a deferred to filmed stage production, but you pick your battles -- I would have loved her Desiree preserved and bringing people to the show for years to come). |
