Given his star billing and status as a Tony winner, it's surprising to me that Chaplin wasn't guaranteed his own big solo in ''Funny Girl.''

His so-so solo, ''Temporary Arrangement,'' was cut, but I wonder why didn't Styne and Merrill write him another (and better) one.
