| I too felt a glow of nostalgia on hearing Arlene Francis' voice again. (It's Barbara Walters' pronunciation, but in a slightly lower register.) Some people now may not remember that besides What's My Line? and a significant Broadway career, Francis also starred in some pretty good movies (One, Two, Three and The Thrill of It All come to mind immediately) and hosted a five-times a week daytime TV series in the Fifties, Home. This was aimed at the housewife taking her morning break, and featured lots of cookery and, yes, fashion shows, but Arlene also conducted celebrity interviews with great aplomb, and not necessarily just show-biz celebrities, either. She did 907 daily episodes of Home, according to IMDb! I remember watching it from time to time when I was home sick from school. |
