When you approach the entrance to the Helen Hayes Theatre, after showing your vax info, a theater employee checks your ticket and, if it's digital, they write the seat location down on a small piece of paper and give it to you. When you enter the theater, another theater employee tells you to silence your phone or put it on airplane mode, then they put it in a flexible neoprene bag, not a whole lot bigger than the phone, and they lock it (I'm not sure how the lock works).I

I believe, if you want to use your phone at intermission, someone in the lobby will unlock it for you. Then, when you leave, there are a number of people you can give your bagged phone to (no waiting), and they will unlock it and you take your phone out and put the bag in a box.

It seems if someone didn't really put their phone on airplane mode or shut it off, sounds would still be able to be heard if the phone rang. It's not like it's a lead bag to protect against kryptonite.
