The only time I saw him onstage was in Hurlyburly and contrary to his reputation as a rather shy, withdrawn man, he was extremely personable when I approached him at stage door. He signed the souvenir programme ("Merry Xmas!") and was gracious and conversational. He was at the beginning of his real apex in the late '80s: he'd done Body Heat and The Big Chill and was about to win the Oscar for Spider Woman and had Broadcast News coming out soon.
Very sad that he has left us at such a relatively young age! |
