I love awards trivia, but who and what wins, and who and what doesn't, often seems like a roll of the dice. As I noted in an earlier thread, so much depends on the season, timing and competition. Sometimes, you have shows that are such juggernauts that I doubt anything could've beat them, like ''A Chorus Line,'' ''The Producers,'' ''The Book of Mormon,'' ''Hamilton,'' etc. Some seasons are stronger and some are weaker. For instance, ''Ragtime'' opened in January 1998, but it lost Best Musical that June to ''The Lion King'' at the 1998 Tonys. If ''Ragtime'' had opened that summer (or January 1999) instead, I bet it would've won Best Musical (over ''Fosse'') at the 1999 Tonys. ... To quote ''Chicago'': ''And that's showbiz ... kid!''
