I remember seeing the Music from The Life CD at the gigantic Tower Records on Fullerton Ave in Chicago. Wikipedia says it was released in '96. The Life began performances on Broadway on 4/26/97, but columnists like Mandlebaum were probably writing about its pre-development at least a year or two earlier. I examined the CD in the store, but decided against buying it. I was pretty much an OBC guy at the time and avoided studio cast recordings of upcoming shows.

The OBC CD of The Life was recorded in May, '97. I saw the show at the Barrymore in Sept., '97 and purchased the CD as soon as I could after seeing the show. There have been 2 local productions of the musical in the Chicago area, one in 2000 by Circle Theatre (which no longer exists) and the other in 2007 by BoHo Theatre (which has been on hiatus since the pandemic). Both productions were quite good.

Amazon still sells the Music from The Life CD.
