I believe you're right, Gregv212. I never saw a theatrical release for it, which is why it was eligible to win Best TV Movie at Critics Choice.
Bartlett Sher also directed the HBO adaptation of J.T. Rogers' play, which also was nominated for Outstanding TV Movie at the Emmys. Interestingly, it doesn't look like any of the Broadway cast got to re-create their roles, not even Michael Aronov, who won a Tony for playing Uri Savir.

With COVID, it's been tricky sometimes figuring out what is or isn't eligible for certain awards. ''tick ... tick ... BOOM!'' was produced by Netflix, but had a very brief theatrical run, so it could be Oscar-eligible. However, I thought Pixar's ''Luca'' was only available on Disney Plus, but is up for Animated Film at the Oscars. (I think the Academy modified its rules allowing movies that were streaming to be Oscar-eligible. Is that still true?) |
