I agree 1000%. It's ridiculous that Bernard Herrmann has only 1 Oscar. And NO nominations for ''Vertigo,'' ''North by Northwest,'' ''Psycho,'' etc.?

It's crazy that there's a 30-year gap between his Oscar nominations for ''Anna & the King of Siam'' (1947) and ''Taxi Driver''/''Obsession'' (1977).

The Academy should've given Herrmann a career Oscar, like they did with composer Alex North, after his winless string of 15 Oscar nominations.

Among current composers, I'm still waiting for Thomas Newman, now at 15 winless Oscar nominations, to finally get his due.

To get back to theater, Sondheim, a movie buff, said Herrmann's haunting score to ''Hangover Square'' was a big influence on ''Sweeney Todd.''
