San Diego Repertory Theatre, which is downtown, has the second production of the three-part rolling world premiere of Michael Gene Sullivan’s play, The Great Khan, in which a Black teenager conjures a visit from Genghis Kahn while working on a report for school. It’s a dandy show. The Old Globe’s El Borracho closes Sunday and has more than a few good moments. La Jolla Playhouse’s new musical, Bhangin It has its press opening on Sunday. Up the road in Solana Beach, North Coast Repertory Theatre, a company with a history of doing fine productions of Pinter, is currently reviving The Homecoming. Further up the coast, New Village Arts is partnering with Oceanside Theatre Company to present Into The Woods. Previews start this weekend.
Mid March is usually a between-production time in San Diego, so the current group of productions is actually an improvement over previous years.
Enjoy,
