Isn't it true that the lead doesn't always get the 11o'clock slot? "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" comes to mind as an example of a supporting character getting it, and I'm sure there are others.

Isn't it true that the lead doesn't always get the 11o'clock slot? Yes, it's a mostly obsolete practice - "Zip" from PAL JOEY is another example - but it showed up recently in SISTER ACT and JAGGED LITTLE PILL.
