| I'm back, kids ! Just had some trouble logging in. Sincere thanks to PlayWiz and BroadwayTonyJ for your good wishes. What a nice community we have ! Anyway, what a tragedy about Encores, eh ? I didn't renew. Guess we'll never see Destry. But today I buy Funny Girl tickets. Hope you all enjoyed Anyone Can Whistle as much as I did. Yesterday in a show in Bay Ridge I recreated my "Side Step" from '94. Lots of great young talent out there. Catching a young friend in Pirates at LaGuardia on 4-3. Broadway's back ! Curtain up ! Light the lights ! Love, Mermaniac xxx | |

| It's very nice to hear from you. Your spirit and joie de vivre are such a tonic for these dark times. I had considered making a trek to New York, primarily to see The Life at Encores. I guess I dodged a bullet. I just had too many conflicts with last week's dates to make such a trip feasible. Lucky me! Hopefully this one Encores show is merely an aberration. I did thoroughly enjoy The Tap Dance Kid on Sun. evening, 2/6/2022. I had never seen a production and knew the show only from clips on YouTube and its OBC album. Whatever changes were made with the text did not bother me. The score seemed to be intact. The choreography, dancing, and the performances were all top notch and I found the story moving. Shahadi Wright Joseph gave such a fine performance as Emma I would like to think that the powers that be decided this bright, young talent had to be seen even though she wasn't a physical match for the character in the original production. I did notice a couple of young women in the ensemble who were plus size girls. I would guess that they had auditioned for Emma but their stars did not shine quite as brightly as did that of Joseph. At least representation was made in a smaller way. It was also nice to see such a large presence of black folks in the audience. I'm an eternal optimist. I'm not giving up on seeing Love Life, Greenwillow, By Jupiter, Something for the Boys, The Vagabond King, Destry Rides Again, Redhead -- the list is endless -- in future Encores productions. |

| The A Capella Choir at Oak Park River Forest High School (my alma mater) did a production of "The Vagabond King" in 1975, starring Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Katherine. "Only a rose....!" | |

| Ah, yes! If Encores does it, I will be there. Also, maybe next season would be a good time for Simply Heavenly and the 1958 version of Flower Drum Song. | |

| You're among those I try to read every post, as your love of musicals comes through. Others I've learned it's best not read, for the most part, even if they are very constantly posting. Yours are very positive. Glad you're back! Steven Spielberg said he wants to do a western next. How about "Destry"? We can only hope. | |

| You're too much, Wiz ! You've got me in tears like the end of 1776 & Zorba ! Anyway, it would be fun to cast a Destry movie. It wouldn't be hard at all. And after seeing that dance show last night, there's plenty of dancers ! | |

| Thanks very much, Laura! I certainly enjoy yours as well. I think I told you some time ago that you're one of the coolest people here! It bears repeating. Anyone dreaming up ways to save George Gershwin is all right with me! (even if I'm half quoting Cole Porter). | |

| I think she meant (correct me if I'm wrong) a remake of the non-musical James Stewart-Marlene Dietrich one or the Andy Griffith-Dolores Gray musical, which I for one would love to see, and which I think is what you want to see as well. Very good Harold Rome score, and Dolores Gray especially is superb on the OCR. What a huge and simultaneously creamy and luscious sounding voice! | |

| Yes, the Rome musical (which I adore) or a straight remake of the film? I’m terrible at casting things, as I don’t really keep up with the movies. 😁 Laura in LA |
