| It's very nice to hear from you. Your spirit and joie de vivre are such a tonic for these dark times. I had considered making a trek to New York, primarily to see The Life at Encores. I guess I dodged a bullet. I just had too many conflicts with last week's dates to make such a trip feasible. Lucky me! Hopefully this one Encores show is merely an aberration. I did thoroughly enjoy The Tap Dance Kid on Sun. evening, 2/6/2022. I had never seen a production and knew the show only from clips on YouTube and its OBC album. Whatever changes were made with the text did not bother me. The score seemed to be intact. The choreography, dancing, and the performances were all top notch and I found the story moving. Shahadi Wright Joseph gave such a fine performance as Emma I would like to think that the powers that be decided this bright, young talent had to be seen even though she wasn't a physical match for the character in the original production. I did notice a couple of young women in the ensemble who were plus size girls. I would guess that they had auditioned for Emma but their stars did not shine quite as brightly as did that of Joseph. At least representation was made in a smaller way. It was also nice to see such a large presence of black folks in the audience. I'm an eternal optimist. I'm not giving up on seeing Love Life, Greenwillow, By Jupiter, Something for the Boys, The Vagabond King, Destry Rides Again, Redhead -- the list is endless -- in future Encores productions. |
