Oh, Nathan's having a ball, and I'm here for it (and he seems true to the figure he's playing, as least based upon what we get from novels about the era).
Nixon is doing the best she can with what they seem to be asking of her... as written that character doesn't make a lot of sense. Is she a naif whose never seen the world? Is she developmentally challenged? Is she just dumb? Who can say, there's no consistent through line.
And Baranski is also in a weird spot, because they want her to be likable and reasonable within her snootiness, which rather defangs her. |
