| What an asinine, insensitive and offensive thing to say, in service of your feeble attempt to appear witty... | |

| The write-up on the project literally mentions that there will be music and that part of the project is in making a musical that is fully accessible to a deaf/hard of hearing audience. Let’s not be ableist. |

| Many many years ago I worked in the DJ booth of a gay nightclub. There was a deaf gay contingent which would frequent the club often, when we knew they were in the house we would increase the sub woofer so they could feel the music. They would flock to the dance floor and the smile on their faces was infectious. Yes the deaf can experience music! | |

| Your smug dismissal of music as a part of deaf storytelling, when Deaf West has presented not one but two musicals on Broadway and countless regionally, is not just ignorant, but quite repugnant. | |

| Did you see the film? Music actually plays a large role in the story. The hearing daughter wants to be a singer. This concept being so foreign to the rest of her family is what drives most of the conflict of the film. After seeing Deaf West's "Spring Awakening" I have no doubt they could make a really lovely musical based on this film. The aspect that I think will might not translate well to the stage is being on fishing boats. But we'll see what they do. | |
