Paradise Square tonight

Bill T. Jones eclectic choreography is the highlight of this melodramatic musical throwback. It is pretty heavy-handed and takes itself very seriously reminiscent of Amazing Grace. The design is similar to Newsies and John Dossett is once again playing the villain. Not sure why it kept reminding me of The Pirate Queen, perhaps the two female leads and the Irish step dancing. The score is pleasant enough but no real standouts. The eleven o'clock number did receive a standing ovation from about 50% of the audience and just about everyone stood at the end. My biggest complaint was that it was not emotionally involving or compelling. It seems unlikely that it will get the rave reviews it needs to have an extended run.
