High on my list of pet peeves--and this has begun to pervade even classical music performances--is the audience DROWNING OUT the very notes of the singer that it's applauding because of how long and/or high the note(s)are being held, hit, whatever. Latest example--for me--was at the justly acclaimed Joaquina Kalukango singing of "Let It Burn" in PARADISE SQUARE. She was STILL singing(as is now always the case)but the audience couldn't wait to voice its sound, preventing EVERYone, including themselves, from hearing her finish delivering her superlative work.
